Reggie (full name ‘Reginald Becton’) has had an incredibly inspiring rise in the R&B music scene. Growing up just outside of Washington D.C, and later attending and graduating from Philadelphia’s Temple University, Reggie decided to uproot and make the life-changing movie to Los Angeles. It was in the city of Los Angeles where he rediscovered his love and passion for music.
At the young age of 7 years old, Reggie discovered that he was naturally gifted with the ability to sing. Driven by the respect and influences of hometown legends like Marvin Gaye and Ginuwine, Reggie spent most of his childhood singing his heart out; much like his heroes. Upon discovering soulful singers such as Avant, Brandy, and Tank; Reggie developed a deep passion for R&B music and motivated him to push his vocal range and power.
When first settling in Los Angeles, Reggie took the traditional route and began courting large record labels through talent scouts and various other avenues. While these attempts failed to gain traction, Reggie seemed to prove the industry wrong an pursue a fully independent music career. Will focused diligence, and good old fashioned hard work; Reggie began mastering the inner workings of both the business and technical side of the music industry. Proving that grueling work still pays off, Reggie was able to land a coveted publishing deal with 4Ever Young Music Group. With this new established relationship, Reggie was able to focus more intently on sharpening his songwriting and composing skills.
It was during this time that Reggie released his first full-length album entitled “21”. 21 proved that Reggie was capable of crafting refreshingly relatable and emotionally impactful songs with brilliant pop sensibility. Fearlessly taking on darker subjects such as depression, heartbreak and drugs, while providing his unique take on love and social stigma; Reggie proved his artistic maturity and range with this absolute gem of an album.
Now, Reggie is back with his much anticipated follow up EP entitled “Time”. “Time” has already been described as the “greatest new independent album in the first quarter”, and received “a strong 9 out of 10” starred review.
Refreshingly blending the soul of vintage R&B with the mainstream precision and digestibility of pop, Reggie proves he just may be the right artist to usher in a new era of R&B.
