Indie Interview Series

We recently had the pleasure of sitting down with the insanely versatile and wildly in demand songwriter/producer OHINI JONEZ.

Check out other artist profiles:

I love how you manage to render your tracks so personal and immersive. Does the melody come first, or do you focus on the beat the most?

Answer: It really depends. When I’m going for something dark and ominous I end up creating my melody first; when it comes to music for cars and the club I create the beat first. The purpose I feel for the music dictates the proces.

Do you perform live? If so, do you feel more comfortable on a stage or within the walls of the recording studio?

Answer: When I was primarily a performing artist I loved being on stage. After I complete what I want to accomplish as a producer I’d love to return to the stage. I’m at home in both, the energies are different. Being on stage is sharing, and the studio is deeply personal.

If you could only pick one song to make a “first impression” on a new listener, which song would you pick and why?

Answer: Probably the Kal-El (Yellow Sun Trap) instrumental. It’s pounding and simple. It hits people in the chest while also giving them something to vibe to; that’s a combination!

What does it take to be “innovative” in music?

Answer: An open ear, mind, and heart. You have to be willing to accept the new sounds and vibes that come, otherwise you’ll be left somewhere stuck in time.

Any upcoming release or tour your way?

We’re currently raising funds and preparing for a very large scale multi media project. Speaking on it would be the equivalent of Marvel talking about the MCU in 2004 too loosely. I’ll say that it will encompass all genres, all forms of media, and be Internet based.

Anywhere online where curious fans can listen to your music and find out more about you?

Answer: Yes! is where my instrumentals are available, and I can also be contacted directly for exclusives! Listeners always search Ohini Jonez on Apple Music, or your preferred streaming site. Also don’t hesitate to visit my Bandcamp (

Ohini Jonez is doing a very limited run exclusively on TrakTrain. Be sure to seize the opportunity to work with this notorious producer before the tracks are made private again!
