Indie Interview Series: VOWED

We recently had the opportunity to sit down with the multi-talented artist, DJ, and producer, VOWED.

VOWED is an on-the-rise and widely revered multi-instrumentalist, producer, and DJ based out of Paris, France. This artist has been steadily gaining exposure and increased visibility for his incredibly versatile music catalog, and has recently developed an incredibly unique take on the EDM and electronica genres. We were first introduced to VOWED through the immersive new Single entitled “Nobel”.

Check out the incredible new Single here:

We were so impressed by the creativity and fearlessness showcased within his catalog, that we wanted had to learn more about this stellar artist. VOWED was kind enough to take the time to answer some of our questions.

I love how you manage to render your tracks so personal and immersive. Does the melody come first, or do you focus on the beat the most?

VOWEDThank you! I usually start out with a melody, develop it to some extent, then add rhythmic elements to put it all in context, but there is no better or worse way to do it, it’s up to you.

Do you perform live? If so, do you feel more comfortable on a stage or within the walls of the recording studio?

VOWED: I do play classic DJ sets, but am working on a live show at the moment, which will be revealed soon! I definitely feel more comfortable on a stage, it gets your adrenaline rushing and immerses you in such energy! I love it.

If you could only pick one song to make a “first impression” on a new listener, which song would you pick and why?

VOWEDI don’t know. Today I would probably pick my last track, Nobel, as I feel it is closer to what I am musically speaking today. I would have chosen a different genre a while back and will surely keep evolving in my production and my tastes.

What does it take to be “innovative” in music

VOWEDYou have to find your signature, your own sound. And by sound I mean vibe. Let’s take Avicii; as soon as one of his tracks tune in on the radio, you can instantly recognize his style, his vibe. I actually have some trouble finding a “sound” to define my music, so I prefer creating atmospheres and blending them together

Any upcoming release or tour your way?

VOWEDReleases are coming end of August, September and October for the moment, so plenty of tracks ready! I will be playing quite a bit in Paris during that period of time, but I can’t say much more about it for the moment!
