Artist Spotlight: Itamar Borochov

We recently had the pleasure of getting to know the wildly ambitious and undeniably gifted Jazz trumpet player, performer, and composer, Itamar Borochov.

While music serves as a general escape and form of solace for many of us; very few artist mediums can be asserted as broadly “beneficial” to one’s well-being with a strong scientific basis. While exploring many of the scientific studies conducted recently, it is true that Jazz music does have its real benefits. Among these benefits, it has been generally proven that Jazz music has a positive impact on our mental and physical health. Specifically, it can stimulate the brain, improve sleep, reduce stress and also strengthen the immune system. With its complex benefits, aside the pure marvel of it; it makes us better appreciate the sheer brilliance that it must require to craft such a magnificent piece of musical art. This is why Israeli-born, Brooklyn based trumpet player Itamar Borochov deserves only the highest praise for his endless contributions to and successes within Jazz Music.

It is an unfortunate reality in the current world of music crafted by today’s generation. It seems as if fearless, ambitious artists are becoming more and more rare and undiscovered. This is mostly due to an unapologetic desire by most new-coming artists to shamelessly reach into existing successful markets, void of any integrity, and follow an incredibly safe musical formula of commercially appealing and catchy copy of a copy Singles. While this approach may work well if your goal as an artist is to make fast cash, albeit becoming forgettable, it certainly isn’t the winning formula for industry longevity and lasting notoriety. For his undeniably timeless and masterful contributions in Jazz music, Itamar Borochov stands out as a memorable force whom operates at much higher level than most of us music-lovers are used to.

Mr. Borochov has had an incredibly inspiring rise to prominence and has deservedly established quite an impressive resume over the years. This artist connects lower Manhattan to North Africa, modern Israel and ancient Bukhara, celebrating traces of the divine that he finds in elegant sophistication, Middle Eastern tradition and downhome blues. Borochov brings a unique sound with him wherever he goes. Deeply immersed in the jazz tradition, Borochovʼs search for his personal roots resulted in an ever-expanding love for Arab and Pan-African musical sensibilities – a natural palette for a trumpeter-composer raised in Jaffa, an integrated Muslim-Jewish-Christian city.

After working with such legendary artists as Curtis Fuller and Candido Camero, and having served as arranger and co-producer for acclaimed world music sensation Yemen Blues, Borochov set out on his own path. His critically acclaimed recording Outset was included in the New York City Jazz Record’s Best of 2014 List, and his latest album Boomerang, has already received serious critical acclaim, and peaked at #5 on iTunes’ Jazz Download chart, and #6 on Amazon’s Jazz Download Chart, and was chosen as “revelation” on Jazz Magazine. Audiences worldwide are falling for his enchanting sound and virtuosic expression.

Furthermore, Mr. Borochov frequently veers away from Jazz Music’s increasingly tired tendencies, making the listening experience feel entirely new and unpredictable. This is truly a milestone and a massive accomplishment for this artist. The compositions flow with a sort of alluring laser focus, while he tactfully injects his skillful trumpet playing throughout. As each composition progresses, you quickly realize that this is not only the work of someone with an undeniable gift, but the intimate expressions of a seasoned veteran in the field. This release with leave you in magnificent awe; captivated by the demonstrated artistic prowess, and marveling at the sheer thoughtfulness, grace, and emotion reproduced within these compositions.

Artist Spotlight: Levi

The Hip Hop genre as a whole is one that (especially in recent years with increased accessibility to self-record) can often feel uninspired and frustratingly tired due to the lack of variation, ambition, and innovation applied within the songwriting and production stage. It seems that every week we are introduced to the same regurgitated beat with the same lazy mumble-rap verses and auto-tune saturated hooks—- only to fizzle out into forgetfulness.

Levi’s newest collaboration with LAMBO entitled “My Block” lands a devastating blow to this terrible trend, and in the aftermath, sets an incredible new standard for all new coming Hip Hip-inspired artists.

We previously had the pleasure of getting to know this incredibly ambitious artist, and we were beyond impressed (check out our other feature here and here). To catch you up, Maron Smith (better known on the streets as LEVI) was born on November 27th, 1996 and raised in Detroit, Michigan.  Going by the name DamnThatsLevi, this up and coming artist has had a remarkably fast and impressive rise to notoriety. Discovering rap and hip-hop at an incredibly young age, LEVI took his love and respect of the genre and slowly developed his own unique execution and style. Citing other respected artists such as Drake and PartyNextDoor as influences, LEVI has brilliantly crafted his own unique style that is sure to compete with many of the genre’s already established greats.

Growing up on the rough streets of the Eastside of Detroit and dealing with the daily struggles within the projects had a humbling effect on this artist.  LEVI comes from a place of struggle and has showcased an exceptional will to fight. Growing up, Bless didn’t have it easy, but he was able to overcome and dominate his struggles and transform them into something uplifting and sonically honest.

We find that one of the most glaring setbacks for new-coming independent artists is the lack of professional mixing and mastering that is necessary to break through into the mainstream markets. This certainly isn’t the case with Levi.

If you are familiar with Levi’s back-catalog, his remarkable versatility and clever unpredictability is always on full display. His impressive flow, creative sequencing, masterful songwriting, and refreshing artistic prowess are undeniably alluring and captivating. The audio production exhibited in the freshly released “My Block” is nothing short of spectacular. This is especially remarkable considering the music itself is ferociously dynamic and unrestrained; we imagine this must have been very challenging to mix. The soundscapes are masterfully complex and unrelenting, the pointed raps are intertwined perfectly with each evolving and ever-changing layer

The mix itself is absolutely stunning, with each complex sonic layer given space to breath and evolve. A truly arduous task for anyone defiantly accepting the challenge of being TRULY independent. This risk has undeniable paid off, as the tracks showcased here are alluringly fresh and entirely unique. The genre is brilliantly undefinable, with Levi sculpting his own self-defining soundscape and style.

This is truly a milestone and an accomplishment for this artist. When approaching newly released music, it’s hard to do so without inherent criticism. It has become tiresome and mundane within the current culture of Pop dominated music. We, as listeners, are exposed to the same formulaic, cookie-cutter, copy of a copy of a copy brand of artists. Though these types of artists have brilliantly perfected the ability to produce safe, catchy, and infectious music; they ultimately amount to being entirely forgettable— certain to be replaced by the next musical clone.

Listening to Levi’s “My Block” was truly an engaging and refreshingly unpredictable experience from beginning to end. This Single oozes independent integrity, musical ambition, and fearless creativity. Not only is it polished and meticulously crafted, but it is sequenced to perfection, leaving the listener wanting more. This release is definitely a trend-setter and sets an unbelievably high standard for Hip Hop inspired indie artists hoping to break through in the scene.

The undefinable, unrelenting, ever-evolving Levi is almost guaranteed to continue his steady rise to prominence with the release of this brilliantly undefinable, yet insanely addictive Single.

Artist Spotlight: Celeste Buckingham

This on-the-rise Electro-Pop sensation has been making waves in the music industry ever since her explosive debut with the well-received debut Single “Run Run Run” in 2012. In our current musical environment, it seems as if fearless, ambitious artists are becoming more and more rare and undiscovered. This is mostly due to an unapologetic desire by most new-coming artists to shamelessly reach into existing successful markets, void of any integrity, and follow an incredibly safe musical formula of commercially appealing and catchy (and infuriatingly redundant) Singles. This trend has infected almost every musical appendage and genre, whether it be commercially produced or independently released. The most unfortunate result of this trend is the stifling of musical ambition and the lack of innovation to set oneself apart in the industry.

While this approach may work well if your goal as an artist is to make fast cash, albeit becoming forgettable, it certainly isn’t the winning formula for industry longevity and lasting notoriety.

The incredibly talented Celeste Buckingham is fiercely rebelling against this trend and quickly emerging as a Pop sensation. Celeste Buckingham stands out within an overpopulated market as a fearless and honest artist with a story to tell.

This artist has had quite a remarkable rise to prominence. By the age of 17, Celeste Buckingham had already conquered the European music scene. Born in Switzerland to a Swiss-American family, she rose to international recognition on the program SuperStar, indisputably solidifying her status as a pop star in Eastern Europe along the way. Her 2012 full-length debut, Don’t Look Back [EMI Czech Republic], yielded the Top 10 single “Run Run Run”, which even garnered the honor of “Best Czech & Slovak Act” at the MTV Europe Music Awards. However, in 2013, Celeste officially arrived in the United States, immediately turning heads as she commenced her next conquest.

Soon after arriving, she began a collaborative partnership with musical director Earl Cohen—whose credits include everybody from Lady Gaga, Pharrell, and P!nk to Whitney Houston, Anita Baker, and David Bowie. Together, they began working on her inaugural North American album in earnest during early 2014 with Celeste co-writing everything. In the midst of creating music, she became nominated in the “Best New Artist” category at the Radio Disney Music Awards, marking a major U.S. accolade.

Listen to her hit Single “Run Run Run”:

While the music showcased within Celeste’s growing catalog can be broadly described as “Pop”, there is so much more to it than what you might expect. This brilliant artist not only acts as unique innovator with her songwriting talents; but she also effectively channels her deep, emotive, and resonating vision through an impressive command of the EDM-Pop genre. Each track featured within her catalog is fantastically sequenced in a way that maintains the listener’s interest, and contains minor mixing and instrumental intricacies that are both unique and add undeniable character to the track. Celeste consistently surprises and impresses with her outstanding vocal ability and displays a strong command of pop vocal melodies. Each vocal performance is authentic and invokes a strong emotional response with her thoughtful and emotive lyrics.

Listen to her newest hit Single “Go Away”:

These tracks differ from most recent Pop releases in that they are fearlessly ambitious and unapologetically unique and difficult to label perfectly. Each track in Celeste Buckingham’s catalog oozes with integrity, honesty, and emotional awareness. Not only are they polished and meticulously crafted, but they’re sequenced to perfection— leaving the listener wanting more. We can definitely see this artist continuing to climb the ranks and becoming a household name. Not only does she have the ability to craft infectious pop hooks and melodies, but she does so with a remarkably unique blending of genres and evident care for messaging and content.

Artist Spotlight: Malacoda

We recently had the pleasure of getting to know the insanely inventive Malacoda through his new ground-breaking EP entitled, “Ritualis Aeterna”.

Malacoda – the on-the-rise North American metal music sensation, in my honest opinion, will evolve as one of the bands, whom I’d put amongst some of the most groundbreaking indie musical acts.

This brilliant band not only acts as a unique innovator; but also effectively channels their deep, emotive, and resonating vision through an impressive command of the experimental metal genre. Supporting their vision with his tools of artistic expression, rather that exploiting them as the gimmick they could easily become; Malacoda stands out among an overpopulated market as a fearless an honest band with a story to tell. Unified by creative passion and the insatiable desire that curses all artists to express themselves with the full extent of their artistic vision, this collective of dark melodic metal from North America aims to show the world they are more than your average metal band. Malacoda is comprised of veteran musicians from various creative backgrounds. This combination creates music with overwhelming visionary prowess and character.. Malacoda has effectively unleashed his wide-spanning musical tastes and influences into a giant boiling caldron, seasoned with style and flair —  and much like a mad scientist, he has stirred ferociously until what has emerged is unrecognizable — an infectious monstrosity of delicious sound.

Malacoda‘s newest EP “Ritualis Aeterna” is not simply a collection of metal avant-garde pieces per se – certainly not in a strict or literal sense. Rather, it is comprised of a large fraction of remarkably accessible, percussive, and metal pieces with an expansive, encompassing, and immersive sound. On the contrary; the album also features ornery, engulfing sonic barrages of rhythmic sensibility and infectious vocal work.

Impressively, Somewhere within these complex and fastidiously crafted tracks there’s a magnificent injection of anthemic, yet haunting instrumental and vocal pieces and that conjure up dynamic feelings of loss, desperation, beauty, and nest expression. The textures featured within the album are lush, but not in the literal definition of the word; rather – in the very sound of the word. The sonic landscape crafted within this album showcases a fusion of sound that feels intimately roomy, well-balanced and evocative, with a great focus on gorgeously shaped backdrops that add a dark, refreshingly organic quality to his tracks. At times, focusing on minimalism, the sounds resonate, merge and surround the listener in a sort of sonic ecstasy. They expand and meander in a flowing fashion, and sweep you in much like the dragging waves washing on the shore of a dark beach; at times these textures are effectively peppered by small intricacies, percussion, and soothing vocals.

Each sound within each track seems to memorably interfere in an oddly irregular, yet efficacious fashion. This first builds an almost perturbed monotony – a growing excitement and sense of anticipation for something to emerge which never fails to deliver.

Check out “Penny Dreadful”:

It is an extremely rare occurrence that we are introduced to an independent artist that absolutely blows our minds; Malacoda has done just this.

The audio production exhibited in the freshly released EP “Ritualis Aeterna” is nothing short of spectacular. This is especially remarkable considering the music itself is ferociously dynamic and unrestrained; we imagine this must have been very challenging to mix. The soundscapes are masterfully complex and unrelenting, the hard-hitting vocals are intertwined perfectly with each evolving and ever-changing layer

The mix overall is absolutely stunning, with each complex sonic layer given space to breath and evolve. A truly arduous task for anyone defiantly accepting the challenge of being TRULY independent. This risk has undeniably paid off, as the tracks showcased here are alluringly fresh and entirely unique. The genre is brilliantly undefinable, with Malacoda sculpting their own self-defining soundscape and style.

This is truly a milestone and an accomplishment for this band. When approaching newly released music, it’s hard to do so without inherent criticism. It has become tiresome and mundane within the current culture of Pop dominated music. Though these types of artists have brilliantly perfected the ability to produce safe, catchy, and infectious music; they ultimately amount to being entirely forgettable— certain to be replaced by the next musical clone.

This is certainly NOT the case with the on-the-rise metal sensation, Malacoda.

With independent recording continually growing more affordable and accessible than it ever has been; the industry is quickly becoming over-saturated with hobbyists and fame-seekers. Due to this, it is becoming ever-harder to be noticed within the endless sea of independent noise. The number of new artists entering the industry every day is growing exponentially. With this increase in industry competition, you’d think there would be a “standard” for things you shouldn’t do if you’re trying to become noticed and successful. Unfortunately, this is not the case…in fact, it seems that a vast majority of new artists have taken the lazy route —- copy those whom are more successful than you. You would think that this competitive environment would inspire some artists to go against the grain and carve out their own identity, but this is too often not the case.

This is precisely what makes Malacoda such a remarkable and respectable artist.

Listening to Malacoda’s “Ritualis Aeterna” was truly an engaging and refreshingly unpredictable experience from beginning to end. This album oozes independent integrity, musical ambition, and fearless creativity. Not only is it polished and meticulously crafted, but it is sequenced to perfection, leaving the listener wanting more. Artist Spotlight: L.O Heemz

With independent recording continually growing more affordable and accessible than it ever has been; the industry is quickly becoming over-saturated with hobbyists and crowded with wannabes. Due to this, it is becoming ever-harder to be noticed within the endless sea of independent noise. The number of new hip-hop artists entering the industry every day is growing exponentially. With this increase in industry competition, you’d think there would be a “standard” for things you shouldn’t do if you’re trying to become noticed and successful. Unfortunately, this is not the case…in fact, it seems that a vast majority of new artists have taken the lazy route — copy those whom are more successful than you.

L.O Heemz has fiercely rebelled against this current trend; creating something innovative and unique, yet entirely approachable and digestible.

Recently, it seems like every new rapper we meet describes themselves similarly. It usually goes something like, “I want to be the next Kanye/Drake/Lamar…” This sentiment is then often uncomfortably showcased in their music as a shameless imitation of their heroes.L.O Heemz puts you in a state of mind, creating an emotional connection with his diverse sound and personal lyrics.  L.O Heemz’s stories are strong, bringing a fresh, brand new edge to the world of Urban Music.

It is completely natural to become inspired by your industry forerunners, but you must stray away from riding on their coattails by replicating their distinct sound and style. This is precisely what L.O Heemz naturally does so well. Upon discovering L.O Heemz, we were immediately struck by what may be his strongest asset: his courage to be entirely unapologetic in his assertion of his own unique identity. This shines radiantly in his newest track entitled “Hundred”.

Listen to “Hundred” here:

Not only has L.O Heemz recognized the same tired trend in the music industry, but he has made it a point to aggressively rebel against it. One of the first characteristics that we noticed in L.O Heemz’s tracks that immediately set him apart was his willingness to be vulnerable and honest. Too often, rappers feel the need to push a familiar facade (which at this point, has become a parody of itself), or they mistake humbleness for weakness. L.O Heemz does neither, he has embraced his own personal identity and has made no apologies for it.

This approach to songwriting naturally injects his music with integrity and honesty. His confidence in his own story, as well as his embrace of his own style allows his music to outshine the rest within the genre. His vulnerability in his songwriting makes it much more organic for the listener to connect with his songs on a personal level. These are qualities that are severely lacking within the current industry, and impressively, L.O Heemz has already figured it.

L.O Heemz is definitely one of those increasingly rare transcendent artists that doesn’t abide by the typical genre limitations and standards. Regardless of your specific musical tastes, regardless of any bias or animosity that you may have against the hip-hop or rap genres; the sheer uniqueness and thoughtfulness of L.O Heemz’s newest Single will inspire and ignite applause and appreciation out of even the most reluctant listeners.

It’s pretty damn refreshing to hear somebody so incredibly versatile and talented behind the mic (and so brilliantly selective with the production). Shying away from the typical clichés of both of the genres that he borrows inspiration from, L.O Heemz has a remarkably unique style and sound which he maintains throughout these early tracks. While L.O Heemz certainly pays homage to the greats; he frequently veers away the genre’s increasingly tired tendencies, making the listening experience feel entirely new and unpredictable.

This artist will almost certainly be taking the scene by storm!

Dissecting “LifeWork: Passage One – The Question” with L.HUNT

In his living concept album “LifeWork: Passage One – The Question”, L.HUNT explores the relationships between music, written word, theatre production and art in a non-traditional and personally unique way. It is evident that he has worked tirelessly to craft his own distinct style and approach. Showcasing an entirely new sound that marries the drama of theatre with the more traditional songwriting styles of Rock, L.HUNT has contributed to the “Rock Opera” genre in a way that sounds entirely fresh and new.

Check out  “Shadows in the Mind’s Eye”:

We were so impressed by the creativity and thoughtfulness showcased within the concept album, that we just had to learn more about this incredible artist. L.HUNT was kind enough to take the time to answer some of our questions.

I love the first few singles from your upcoming album “LifeWork: Passage One – The Question.” Tell me a little more about your process in producing L.HUNT songs. Does the melody come first, the lyrics, or do you focus on a beat you want it to have?

Answer: I am primarily the lyricist and producer on all of my songs. I also mix them. The only exception on the current project where I’ve composed the melodies myself, are the songs “Shadows in the Mind’s Eye,” “The Mind/Body Interface (Two Parts Transposing at Intervals)” and one that combines my melody with one that Chris Davidson wrote. That song is “Mountains and Valleys (A Sharp Focus on the Mental Environment).”

That said, my method of producing an L.HUNT song generally works like this: Based on the project storyline, I begin conceiving titles for the songs according to subject matter of speech or situation. After the lyrics for the song have been worked out, I send them to the composer that I’ve chosen for the melody. He or she creates the melody along with a basic piano or guitar line. They deliver 2 MP3’s – one of vocal only, the other a mix of vocal and instrument. I should add here that I have not gone into a studio to produce a single song, but everything has been commissioned, discussed and received via the internet. As I develop further in the music field I’m sure I will have opportunity to work in that way, and I look forward to it. Until then it’s just me, my MacBook Pro and Logic Pro X. Now I have a great melody on MP3 and I decide how the song will be approached. Sometimes it comes immediately on the first listen, others take repeating the song over and over again over time. An example of immediacy is a LifeWork song I’m working on titled “Land Mass.” An awesome melody by Chris Davidson that excited me when I thought about it being “A Rocking Mozart Approach With a Johnny Otis Hand Jive Spin.” That is the direction to begin the process.

As it’s developed it will become something very original and maybe not anything like the initial drive that started it. It’s very important that an album full of L.HUNT songs is not the same 4 instruments being played by the same 4 people in just a different way. What new instruments can be used here? What creative composition can be achieved? What does this song demand of itself? Banjo? Harp? French horns? All three together? This is a benefit of being the manager of the process that I can pick and choose anything I want, instead of being in a band where everyone wants their instrument to be heard on every song. So I usually start by getting a more focused piano track. I communicate some colorful direction and breakdown how I want the music spaced in relation to the lyrics. The first MP3 was the melody straight through, no breaks. So I determine whether there should be a 30 second intro, a 1 minute musical section somewhere inside it, a lingering exit, etc. Sometimes I may want the entire song to change into something else – like how the chaos of “Death: A Jagged Shadow” suddenly became a funeral song for MINER in Desert Rose.

Excerpt as example:  The pianist sends 2 files back. One, a Wave file, with piano only. The other, an MP3 of a mix of the piano and the vocal-only track that I sent to him/her. That MP3 will be a guide for other musicians I hire and the vocalist(s). I then build on that depending on the direction I’ve chosen. Much of the time, drums and percussion come next.

Behind the scenes:

Can you discuss the concept and what we can expect from your upcoming rock opera “LifeWork: Passage One – The Question”?

Answer: Madness within an intricate puzzle; an analyzation of the main character’s mind and a fantastical journey that he will take the listeners on as he works through his confusion and clears the way to correct thinking and mental health. But it is not a cliche, expected rock craziness like Diary of a Madman. It is an intellectual and experimental treatment that would be more in the arena of The Wall or Deloused in the Comatorium – but on steroids. The storyline holds within it an unfolding puzzle that may take only a university professor to interpret it, we’ll have to see. The lyrics are not haphazard filler, they are well-crafted and purposeful. Passage One is laying the groundwork for the next 3 albums which will take this story to a realm that could never be expected at this early stage. This sounds like a monumental promise that can’t be delivered, but I’ve been developing the concept, the lyrics and libretto for the stage production since 1985. I’m very passionate about this project and I’m excited to see others enter the sonic labyrinth and enjoy the musical ride through – and out the other side.

Any further clues to help us decipher this puzzle you are devising?

Answer: There will also be videos titled “Additional Passages” that will be released. They will reveal new content related to the project. These videos give background in order to understand the breadth of the story, outside of the material on the album. The first one has already been released here: https://youtu.be/u5nDfpss_yY

Discovering the rock opera “LifeWork: Passage One – The Question” by L.HUNT was truly an engaging and worthwhile experience. This differs from most recent indie releases in that it is fearlessly ambitious and unapologetically unique and difficult to label. Not only is it polished and meticulously crafted, but it is sequenced to perfection, leaving the listener wanting more. We can definitely see this artist climbing the ranks and becoming a household name and inspiring a new generation of independent artists. L.HUNT is a remarkable act and an amazing breath of fresh air within an industry that has become overly saturated with copycat artists whose sole goal is to cash in on an increasingly uninventive formula. This ever-evolving rock opera is a MUST LISTEN!

While the music showcased within Lreds’s growing catalog can be broadly described as “Pop”, there is so much more to it than what you might expect. Artist Spotlight: Winds & Walls

We recently had the pleasure of getting to know the alternative post-hardcore, indie-rock sensation “WINDS & WALLS”.

WINDS & WALLS has been making waves in the indie music scene for their incredibly unique and alluring brand of music. It is an unfortunate reality in the current world of music where It seems as though fearless, ambitious artists are becoming more and more rare and undiscovered. This is mostly due to an unapologetic desire by most new-coming artists to shamelessly reach into existing successful markets, void of any integrity, and follow an incredibly safe musical formula of commercially appealing and catchy tunes. Powerful messaging and honest content in music has been sadly lost due to this trend; it is growing more and more apparent that the main driving force  behind many new “artists” entering the industry is simply a thirst for fame and money.

WINDS & WALLS makes no attempt to conform to these market tastes and trends— and this is precisely what makes them such a respectable and remarkable act.

This brilliant band acts as a marvelous innovator in the indie-world, and they effectively channel their dealbum, emotive, and resonating vision through an impressive display of creative songwriting and inventive musical arrangements. With their fun, relatable, and highly inventive tunes; WINDS & WALLS has reignited the approach that music, as an artistic medium, should transcend the label of “commodity” and become something much more immersive and engaging. The band is unapologetically committed to supporting their shared vision with their tools of artistic expression, rather than exploiting them for the cash-grabbing gimmick that they can so easily become.

“Satellites” is definitely one of those increasingly rare transcendent Albums that doesn’t abide by the typical genre limitations and standards. Regardless of your specific musical tastes, regardless of any bias or animosity that you may have against the indie genres; the sheer honesty and thoughtfulness of the songwriting within this album will inspire and ignite applause and appreciation out of even the most reluctant listeners. It is a tireless listening experience and effortlessly maintains your interest throughout.

Opening track “Parallel Universe (Part I)” particularly stands out upon first listen. The sonic landscape crafted within this track alone fully encapsulates the dynamic nature of the Album as a whole. The track showcases a swaying fusion of sound that feels intimately roomy, well-balanced and evocative, with a great focus on gorgeous harmonies and infectious melodies. The sounds resonate, merge and surround the listener in a sort of sonic ecstasy while maintaining a strong driving beat. “Satellites” stands out as an immediate favorite of mine. The track is very vibrant and modern-sounding, yet it maintains its own identity perfectly. There is definitely something for everyone here. Each track featured on the album is fantastically sequenced in a way that maintains the listener’s interest, and contains minor mixing and instrumental intricacies that are both unique and add undeniable character to the track.

Check out “Parallel Universe (Part I)”:

WINDS & WALLS are a remarkable act and an amazing breath of fresh air within an industry that has become overly saturated with copycat artists whose sole goal is to cash in on an increasingly uninventive formula. WINDS & WALLS, in my honest opinion, has the potential to go down as one of those rare bands whom helped change the musical landscape, and will fondly remembered among some of the most groundbreaking independent acts.We can definitely see this band continuing their rise and becoming a household name, while inspiring a new generation of independent artists. Not only do they have the ability to craft infectious vocal hooks and melodies, but they does so with a remarkably unique blending of genres and evident care for messaging and content. “Satellites” is a MUST LISTEN!

Artist Spotlight: Shawn Michael

Recently, it seems like every new rapper or Hip Hop artist we meet describes themselves similarly. It usually goes something like, “I want to be the next Kanye/Drake/Lamar…” This sentiment is then often uncomfortably showcased in their music as a shameless imitation of their heroes. While it is completely natural to become inspired by your industry forerunners, but you must stray away from riding on their coattails by replicating their distinct sound and style.

This is precisely what Shawn Michael naturally does so well. Upon discovering this artist, we were immediately struck by what may be his strongest asset: his courage to be entirely unapologetic in his assertion of his own unique identity.

Check out “Party2nite”:

The Hip Hop/Rap genre as a whole is one that (especially in recent years with increased accessibility to self-record) can often feel uninspired and frustratingly tired due to the lack of variation, ambition, and innovation applied within the songwriting and production stage. It seems that every week we are introduced to the same regurgitated beat with the same lazy mumble-rap verses and auto-tune saturated hooks—- only to fizzle out into forgetfulness. In fact it’s hard to approach any new music without inherent cynicism and skepticism. It has become tiresome and mundane within the current culture of Pop dominated music. We, as listeners, are exposed to the same formulaic, cookie-cutter, copy of a copy of a copy brand of artists. Although these types of artists have brilliantly perfected the ability to produce safe, catchy, and infectious music; they ultimately amount to being entirely forgettable, soon to be replaced by the next musical doppelgänger. This trend has infected almost every musical appendage and genre, whether it be commercially produced or independently released. Specifically, this pattern has nearly crippled the Rap/ Hip Hop scene.

Not only has Shawn Michael recognized the same tired trend in the music industry, but he has made it a point to aggressively rebel against it.

One of the first characteristics that we noticed in Shawn Michael’s tracks that immediately set him apart was his willingness to be fun and provocative. Too often, rappers feel the need to push a familiar facade (which at this point, has become a parody of itself), or they mistake humbleness for weakness. Shawn Michael does neither, he has embraced his own personal identity and has made no apologies for it. This track is no doubt a club banger. Not only is it polished and meticulously crafted, but it is sequenced to perfection, leaving the listener wanting more. This artist is definitely a trend-setter and sets an unbelievably high standard for indie Hip Hop/EDM artists hoping to break through in the scene.

Its pretty damn refreshing to hear somebody so incredibly versatile and talented behind the mic (and so brilliantly selective with the production). Shying away from the typical clichés of both of the genres that he borrows inspiration from, Shawn Michael has a remarkably unique style and sound which he maintains throughout his tracks. While Shawn Michael certainly pays homage to the greats; he frequently veers away the genre’s increasingly tired tendencies, making the listening experience feel entirely new and unpredictable.

This is definitely an artist you CAN’T IGNORE!

Artist spotlight: Wuapo

Wuapo has fiercely rebelled against this current trend; presenting something innovative and unique, yet entirely approachable and digestible.

It is completely natural to become inspired by your industry forerunners, but you must stray away from riding on their coattails by replicating their distinct sound and style. This is precisely what this artist naturally does so well. Upon discovering Wuapo, we were immediately struck by what may be his strongest asset: his courage to be entirely unapologetic in his assertion of his own unique identity. This shines radiantly on his newest Single entitled “I Just Wanna”.
