We were so impressed by the creativity and confidence showcased on the new Single, that we wanted had to learn more about this stellar artist. Klef Mikaydo was kind enough to take the time to answer some of our questions.

I love how you manage to render your tracks so personal and immersive. Does the melody come first, or do you focus on the beat the most?

Klef Mikaydo:  It all depends. Usually I come up with a melody first and build the beat around that sound. Melodies tend to move and inspire me to be more creative as the groove puts me in a zone. There are other times where I come up with lyrics and a melody and build the beat around my vocals.

Do you perform live? If so, do you feel more comfortable on a stage or within the walls of the recording studio?

Klef Mikaydo: As a rapper I’ve performed live multiple times. I used to go by the name G.Klef but as I transitioned into singing, I changed my moniker to Klef Mikaydo. I haven’t had the chance to perform as a singer because I’m just doing fully into that craft. I’ll definitely have some performances scheduled soon!

If you could only pick one song to make a “first impression” on a new listener, which song would you pick and why?

Klef Mikaydo:  Right now I’d pick my single Last Night. We’re in a time period where everyone wants to party and get lit. I think Last Night has the energy to captivate people of all backgrounds and gives you that sense of enjoyment. I also believe a lot of people can relate to seeing that one person in the club you’re attracted to and end up hitting it off.

What does it take to be “innovative” in music

Klef Mikaydo: Consistent creativity. Sometimes artists get stagnant and comfortable. You have to go out and see different things that may inspire your creative juices. Something as simple as taking a walk or a hike can inspire innovative thinking.

Any upcoming release or tour your way?

Klef Mikaydo: I’m currently working on a 6-7 track EP.  I’ll keep everyone updated via social media as I progress. Right now I’m focused on get Last Night to the world.
